Housing Choice Vouchers
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development( HUD) Rental Assistant Programs are valuable resources that assist families nationwide to obtain safe, decent, and affordable rental housing. The rental assistance Program was established for low-income families. These Families must meet HUD and Authority eligibility requirements to receive assistance. Under each program, families must pay 30% of their monthly income toward housing expenses (rent and utilities). The amount may be recalculated if family income changes.
HCVP, or Voucher Program, is the rental assistance program that is administered by the authority. Eligible families select a rental unit, and the rent is subsidized by the authority. A family can choose to move to a unit anywhere in the county. A family can use the voucher in the current unit that they are living in as long as the owner/landlord is willing to participate in the program and the unit conditions are met by the program requirements. The Voucher Program also allows families to relocate nationwide and still receive assistance as long as certain conditions are met.
